From Miss Brown with Love

I am home in Nashville for a quick and was hoping not to neglect the blog. Though being home for less than 2 weeks leave little time for blogging, but please believe my 'Fit game has been on point every single day I've been here. Plus the weather held up for a few days and I actually felt like I was in Cali, though that was short lived the humidity came home to stay yesterday!

A week or so ago I blogged about the Rachel Pally Sample Sale that was going on in LA. Rachel Pally is one of my favorite designers. She makes fabulous and elegant pieces but they are all made from the plushest jersey. When I wear her pieces I feel feminine and sexy and comfortable which is the ultimate triple threat to me. White Label is her plus size line and I got my first dress close to a couple of years ago and fell in love. The catch is her pieces are not cheap. The Caftan Dress I first purchased Retailed for around $250 though I got it on clearance from Nordstroms for $60.

Of course when I heard about the Sample Sale with prices marked up to 80% off there was no way I was gonna miss out! I ended up leaving with two pieces an off the shoulder ruffle shirt and and one sleeve sheath dress. Also, I apologize for the poor picture quality ahead of time as dark carribean clubs aren't the best atmosphere for good quality pics!

I felt a little strange because I bought both pieces in black. Rachel Pally uses great colors and patterns but every piece I have purchased from her so far has been black. This dress is actually not part of her Plus Size line but many of standard line pieces could fit someone plus sized!

I also ended up needed to buy a new strapless bra and went with the Ashley Stewart Butterfly Bra, can we just say I am in love. I have never worn a strapless bra and felt secure. I threw down that night and the girls never moved and inch. I wasn't pulling and tugging, the bra gods have finally answered my prayers!!!

This dress is crazy comfortable and yet it makes you feel amazingly sexy! I loved wearing the F21 necklace as a body chain! I do wish these pictures were better, but I have no doubt I will be wearing this dress again in the near future! I hope that everyone is enjoying the last little bit of summer! This time next week I'll be D.C. bound! Once Im settled I promise I'll return to the regularly scheduled Round Brown!

I just wanted to give all a heads up that I will be MIA most likely for the next week or so. I am preparing to head home to Nashville for couple of weeks and then I am off to D.C. for my internship with the Kennedy Center on September 3rd! I fly out of Killa Cali on Friday (which seems forever away, why when I'm ready to go must things go so slow?) I've got most all packed up and I will try and take a few pics before I'm all done so you all can see the challenge that is packing for 4 months in weather that I am not typically accustomed. I'm proud though looks like I'll only have to ship two boxes with winter coats ... yes 2 boxes but options are key and I like to have lots of them! While I am home in Nashville for a few weeks I should be able to pump out some 'Fect 'Fit, I've got plans to have some fun ... plus my mommy and sister will be able to help out!!! Then we will start the DC edition of this ShinDig and I can't wait! Right Coast here I come! Ill miss you though LA see you in January!

P.S. Check the Gloves I restiched and make into some sexy half gloves... Gonna call them my Willy Wonka Drivers... Dare I say they make me excited for cooler weather? I plan on posting a DIY episode soon so you can get on this trend in your own style! Ooh ohh and I got two uber cute pieces at the Rachel Pally Sample Sale, lookin forward to rockin them!

No wardrobe is complete without some amazing finds from your local thrift store or consignment shop. The great thing is that that you never know what you might find and its pretty much a guarantee it’s going to be a one of a kind piece. Though patience is key. Don’t expect this to be like walking in your fave store going right to what you want and leaving (though rarely is it this simple in the first place). Also, when it comes to your local thrift store, sizes mean little to nothing, you may find a dress that reads a size 8 and fits and another that reads a size 16 and is nowhere close to fitting. It is always good to try on what you find before you buy, but if this isn’t something you don’t' like to do then go with your instinct. You should be able to tell by the fabric a piece is made from and the construction along other materials used, as to whether or not you will be able to fit into the garment.

It is also important to be in a creative state of mind when thriftin’. If you find a piece that is outdated but you love the fabric and other aspects of it, don’t be afraid to go at it with some scissors, needle and thread. Thrift stores can also be a great place to find classic jewelry pieces and some great bags and shoes as well! You will find that is there is nothing more satisfying than finding a piece from days gone by and bringing it back to the future so to speak; it’s something like the ultimate adventure, Happy Thriftin’ All!

Inspiration

A skirt with a comfy top, cute belt and heels is one of my go to outfits. Its feminine and yet not to dressy and can work from day into night! You can always add a jean jacket or different accessories to spice it up! Just in case you are not in the mood for heels a cute sandal always works and you are ready for an afternoon picnic or stroll at the beach!

Who knows what might be next. Stay tuned for the next ARB Episode!

I very much realize that I may be a bit behind the times when it comes to TV, as I don't get to watch it often and when I do I stick to what I know. Plus Im horrible at remember what times things come on .Even with being on the left coast for 3 years I have yet to figure out the time change difference bc I am accustomed to 9/8c...

either way... thanks to my folks over at SoulBounce. I stumbled across a trailor for Fox TV's Glee. What could be better than a show about a group of Glee Club Geeks (and I mean this in the best of ways as I was one myself) who believe in the power of the spontaneous song outbreak, and why not spoof on some of the current tunes of the day? I think everyone's life should be a musical. (Not to mention it has Jane Lynch one of my all time fav actress from the Christopher Guest Mockumentaries) Which for a person who is involved in Theatre and the Arts and has been for most of her life is the most amazing thing ever. I will def be programming this into the BB for reminder once the season premier begins on September 9th. But what does this have to do with my blog. Well there is a fierce sassy round brown curvy on the show who's name is Amber Riley (aside from the fact that she is pretty amazing ... check out her Spoof (though her voice is my no means a spoof) of Jazmine Sullivan's Bust Your Windows, she is also my namesake) I am usually pretty picky about who I like to share my name with, but I will gladly share it with Amber Riley anytime!

As far as I am concerned you can never have enough talented big black women in the business. While most folks looking from the outside in would like to think that working in the entertainment world isn't as complicated as it seems .That is far from the truth, and If you are a Black, and a woman, who is shapely and curvaceous and unapologetic, your work job is guaranteed to be the path less traveled. I love that she will be able to be a role model for some little girl who thinks that her size might inhibit her from doing the things she loves. Further more she is a driving force for me, the more I see Black women who are a representation of me in the public eye the harder I work to get the recognition for those who are working in other areas as well!

Plus from the few pics I could find I will be interested to see what her personal style is and what fashion styles, trends, and designers she might help bring to the forefront! I love the' Fit above with the throwback sneaks. Besides anything with gold always gets bumped to the top of my list!

The shoes with this 'Fit are that hottness!

So Kudos to Amber Riley I am glad I stumbled across her when I did. Make sure to keep an eye out for all of the fabulous things I am sure she will be doing in the future representing for all the Round Brown Lovelies!

There is something about a man in a well tailored suit! In each one of the episodes so far the importance of the suit has been clear! We head back to my hometown of Nashville for the man of Episode 5. If you’ve ever needed a suit “go to man” this gentleman might be the one. He slips into a suit like it’s a second skin and it shows. I can’t lie I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a suit for breakfast, lunch and dinner just to see what possibilities he could come up with!

This is my journey into the world of Men’s Big & Tall Fashion. You’ll find that their wants, needs, and desires aren’t so different from your own! They deserve to be catered too just as much as we do. So with much ado I give you the subject of Episode 5, Michael!

8. What is your biggest complaint about Big and Tall clothing?

For some strange reason places tend to tack on an extra $5 - $7 dollars for using and extra foot of material. It’s like a penalty.

Not a particular store, but I wish Kenneth Cole & Perry Ellis made more clothing in my size.

10. Do you like the term, "Big and Tall"? If not, can you think of anything better?

Don't really care for the term.
